Jonathan Baskett is constantly exploring innovative approaches to making production work, limited series and one-of-a-kind exhibition glass forms.  He first trained in glass production as an assistant at Isle of Wight Glass, England in 1992.  Jonathan’s experience, creativity and passion for design have resulted in unique glassware that is functional, original and also affordable.  His work displays clean lines and minimalist aesthetics, as well as a preference for abstract forms and bright colour combinations.  Jonathan writes: “whilst inspiration for my work is varied, I enjoy drawing on my experiences from living and working in Europe and Latin America”.  In 2000, Jonathan won a design contract with the National Gallery of Australia for the Centenary of Federation Exhibition that is testament to Jonathan’s reputation as a remarkable glass artist.

Born in Canberra in 1969, Jonathan graduated from the ANU School of Art with an honours degree in 1996.  He went on to gain valuable experience as an assistant in glass studios in both Australia and in Europe, including Gilles Jones glass design in England and Michael Kramer Studio Glass in Germany.  In 1998, he was studio designer, maker and manager at Ebeltoft Glass Museum, Denmark and, in 2000, commenced a design collaboration with Salviati in Venice, Italy.  In 2003, he completed his Master of Arts (glass production design) at ANU and now runs his own studio facility specialising in the design and production of hand-blown functional glassware.
