about the exhibition

Refraction is defined as ‘the change of direction of a ray of light, sound, heat, or the like, in passing obliquely from one medium into another in which its wave velocity is different’. Bearing this definition in mind, and thinking of an exhibition based on something like a Chinese whispers chain (but without the change in meaning or intent that often occurs), we have invited the 17 artists below to each create a work which is inspired by, and responds to, the work of the artist before them in the chain. Each of the artists has been set a theme to work within (shown in brackets after their name), establishing a point of connection to that of the preceding work. Using this previous artwork as a springboard, what will transpire is a bouncing of ideas, much like how light refracts through glass.
