Jessica Loughlin’s kilnformed glass works are exquisite in their combination of balance and proportion and their carefully constructed tonal qualities.  Successfully harnessing the inherently changeable nature of her chosen medium of glass, Jessica’s work, through amorphous tonal boundaries, explores the infinite depth of the most defining features of the  Australian landscape - vast space and distance.  Here the boundaries of sky, water and land are often blurred.  The subtly composed layers of glass are integral to her restrained aesthetic which, most importantly, aims to portray the stillness of the landscape and the calmness it evokes within herself and her work.

Jessica Loughlin is a much awarded artist who has developed a strong international profile.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts (Visual) Hons, majoring in glass, at the Australian National University in Canberra in 1997 and then was invited to do a residency at the renowned Bullseye Glass Company in the USA.  She has completed a number of other residences in the USA including Urban Glass New York in 2000 and a scholarship to the Pilchuck Glass School in 2007.  Jessica has twice been awarded the Tom Malone Art Prize at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, once in 2004 and once in 2007, as well as the RFC Glass Prize (now Ranamok) in 1997 and the Urban Glass (NY, USA) award for ‘Outstanding New Artist in Glass’ in 2001.  Her work is represented in major collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Corning Museum of Glass (USA), Mobile Museum of Art (USA), Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), Glasmuseum Ebeltoft (Denmark), Musée de Design et d’Arts Appliqués Contemporains (Switzerland), Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Western Australia and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery National Art Glass Collection.
