Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Association (WAAA) was established in 1985 when it emerged out of the dynamic acrylic art movement of the western desert. In the ensuing years WAAA became one of the foremost arts centres in the region producing exciting and vibrant paintings based entirely around stories of the Jukurrpa or Dreaming of the Warlpiri and Anmatjarra people. Warlukurlangu is based in Yuendumu, about three and a half hours' drive north west of Alice Springs and is Aboriginal owned, with over 200 artists making up the membership of the association. More than just an important source of income for the community, Warlukurlangu acts as a living repository for Aboriginal culture, documenting its rich archive for scholars and visitors alike. Specialising in acrylic paintings, screen prints and etchings, large canvases, traditional artefacts and sand paintings, the arts centre seeks to foster a growing understanding of Warlpiri culture and enhance the lives of the local people.

Yuendumu artists' work is collected worldwide and has been exhibited at most of the Australian State Galleries, the Glasgow Museum, the Gifu Museum of Fine Arts (Japan), Groninger Museum (Holland), the Pompidou Centre (Paris), the Lyon Biennale, and the Cleveland Centre for Contemporary Art (USA).
