Melinda Young is a contemporary jeweller who creates quirky, graphic handmade jewellery. She says of her practice, “Fascinated by the potential for unexpected narrative and interpretation, my jewellery has a carefully considered use of colour and often a sly, subversive sense of humour. Inspired by architecture, the landscape, the social condition of the body and my everyday surroundings, my work often takes the form of small colour studies, each having the potential to tell a range of stories.” She makes all her pieces by hand and revels in the individuality and idiosyncratic edge that the hand brings to bear upon the work.
Melinda has a Master of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts and has exhibited extensively in Australia and overseas since 1997. Her work is held in public collections in Australia and Norway and has been included in numerous publications.
