about the exhibition
Alterfact is an experimental design studio established by Ben Landau and Lucile Sciallano in 2014, which uses 3D printing technologies to create innovative ceramic forms. In this new body of work, titled ‘The Strip’, Ben and Lucile appropriate the taxonomy of industrial architecture. The series takes inspiration from Venturi and Scott Brown’s ‘Learning from Las Vegas’ and Bernd and Hill Becher’s photographic typologies of German industrial architecture. By using emerging technological capabilities, the artists aim to question both the validity of 3D printing as an industrial process and the intersection of technology and craft.
Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013, Ben and Lucile have worked in tandem to explore a variety of mediums. A selection of 3D printed porcelain objects from Alterfact’s ‘Teapot Menagerie’ series was recently collected by the National Gallery of Victoria.
